Spooky Six Flags Magic Mountain + Universal Studios Hollywood Trip Report

Hello! :D

Did everyone have fun in Florida? :}

From one coast to the other, we now jump to Six Flags Magic Mountain! It's been a few weeks since Halloween, but I don't suppose any of you mind revisiting some seasonal spookiness at Six Flags, do you? ;}

It's great to be back at Magic Mountain! Our last visit was all the way back in April.

We get to the entrance and find that X2 and Viper are under arrest for public misconduct. Way to go, guys.

Full Throttle you better hide before they arrest you for that outrageous 60 minute queue.

And Superman, you're on thin ice from all of those noise complaints you get for sounding like a damn Airbus taking off. Watch it.

"The police don't scare me" says The Riddler. "What does does scare me, however, is the possibility of a floorless conversion threatening my status as World's Best Stand-Up."

"Oh, and spiders. Spiders also scare me."

Some people see the camera and they just smile. This guy went the extra mile.

A lot of old structures in the park have been converted into Haunt mazes. One of the few that remain destitute is the lower Dragon station, which has been yearning for redevelopment since the Reagan administration.

If you listen closely, you can hear it softly humming "Someday My Prince Will Come" behind the curtain of fauna slowly reclaiming the space.

I really want to steal this sign. Do you think they'd notice?

First ride of the day was Goldrusher because I didn't feel like standing in a line yet. I love Magic Mountain's Arrow collection.

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis looks great so far.

BAE <3

If you know me, you know by now that Ninja is my favorite ride at Six Flags.

It's also tied with Matterhorn for favorite steel coaster west of the Mississippi.

A part of me misses the trees around the ride, but I really love being able to see so much of the ride again. Reminds me of how it looked on my first ride in 1998.

Bye.

I completely missed the window of time where the Sky Tower was actually running again. Now it looks like I'll never get to ride it.

Boo. Hiss.

This guy doesn't look very happy for someone operating the Happy Honda Express.

Revolution is experiencing technical difficulties.

The obvious solution is to take the VR headsets and throw them in a river.

Who here loves Viper? #hypeforvipe

Yes, rounding out today's Arrow samplings is everyone's favorite snarling danger noodle.

"Please don't let Six Flags replace me with a B&M Dive Machine. I promise to never get arrested again."

Yay! Revolution is fixed!

As annoyed as I am about the VR stuff, it sure is nice using the single rider line to waltz up to the front row for a VR-less ride.

Goliath is dead-last in the hyper coaster pecking order, but it sure looks nice.

DC Comics land is getting a lot of extra attention these days thanks to the tremendous success of the Suicide Squad movie.

In fact, Suicide Squad takes center stage for Fright Fest!

Screampunk District also has a strong showing for the event.

By far the spookiest thing at the event to me was seeing the old Flashback area again.

I loved Flashback when I was little; seeing the surprisingly intact Flashback buildings (which actually date back to the early 80s) was haunting to me. Hard to believe that this once-vital artery, home to early attractions of significance like Mountain Express and the Whitewater Lake Metro Station, has been reduced to seasonal operation only.

Valencia Falls looks great during Haunt.

Organic, cage-free inferno was summoned for the event, locally sourced from the fiery pits of hell.

Tatsu's paint job looks bad even in almost total darkness. That takes skill.

I am way too entertained by Revolution's synchronized loop LEDS.

Mid-loop!

The first person who can tell me where this 90s era Six Flags logo neon sign is located will win a free rock.

Ninja sure looks spooky during Fright Fest!

Sorry for the crappy photo, but this is semi-important so I wanted to include it anyway. The Shangri-La Eagle's Flight station is one of 3 otherwise shuttered buildings on Samurai Summit that are put to use on a season basis. The others are the Laughing Dragon Pizza Co. / Four Winds Steakhouse building and the Magic Pagoda.

The original Magic Pagoda attraction wasn't at all unlike a Fright Fest attraction. It featured mild funhouse-esque rooms with gags, optical illusions, and other things of interest. Its icon was the mystical statue of Hotio, which is still intact in the boneyard near Apocalypse.

Ninja gives some of the best night rides around.

After several night rides on Ninja and a few on X2 it was time to call it a night.

The next day we made a visit to Universal Hollywood!

This seems like the natural place to start. :}

*a fine wizard approaches*

Don't eat these before your ride on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or they might just end up splattered all over one of the movie screens.

Something new since our last visit!

I don't watch the show so I don't get whatever references there are to find.

Had a nice ride on Robot Spiderman.

Jurassic Park is still USH bae tbh.

We stood in line for half an hour to ride the Buckbeak coaster because that's what coaster enthusiasts do.

The benefit of standing in a scenic overflow queue like this is all the nice vantage points. :}

Get your life old mustache dude!

Ok I know it was really short but that concludes our Universal Hollywood visit!

Since I was already having Disney withdrawals, I decided it was about time to spend two days at Disneyland!

Join us next time for our Disneyland Resort (full of seasonal attraction action!), and then after that we have more fun with Sean at Knott's Berry Farm and Buffalo Bill's Casino!

See you there! :}
